【1968年の主な音楽的出来事】
○ビートルズがアップルからの第1弾『the Beatles』(通称「ホワイト・アルバム」)をリリース。シングルでは「Hey Jude」が大ヒット。
○ビートルズで最初のソロ作をジョージ・ハリソンがリリース。
○ビル・グレアムがフィルモア・イーストをニューヨークに開く。また、サンフランシスコでは場所を変えてフィルモア・ウエストとしてリニューアル。マイク・ブルームフィールドとアル・クーパーの『フィルモアの奇蹟』が録音された。
○ロックを取り入れた初のブロードウェイ・ミュージカル『ヘアー』がヒット。
○ピンク・フロイドにデイヴ・ギルモアが加入。シド・バレットが脱退。
○スティーヴ・ミラー・バンド、CCR、ステッペン・ウルフ、ランディ・ニューマン、ディープ・パープル、ソフト・マシーンらがデビュー。
○バッファロー・スプリングフィールド、ラヴィン・スプーンフル、クリーム、アニマルズらが解散。
○キング牧師が射殺される。
