【1966年の主な音楽的出来事】
○ビートルズが『Revolver』をリリース。この年の6月30日〜7月2日、日本武道館で5回の来日公演を行う。また、ジョン・レノンのキリスト発言の影響で、レコードが燃やされたり放送禁止の事態に。8月29日でのサンフランシスコがビートルズにとって最後のステージとなった。

○ローリング・ストーンズが全曲オリジナル曲の『Aftermath』をリリース。

○ボブ・ディランが2枚組『Blonde on Blonde』をリリース。この年、オートバイ事故を起こしてシーンから退く。

○ビーチ・ボーイズが名作『Pet Sounds』をリリース。この後、ブライアン・ウィルソンは『Smile』に取り掛かるも頓挫。この年の初めには初来日公演も行う。

○エリック・クラプトンはジョン・メイオールのブルース・ブレイカーズに加入して、『Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton』を録音。その後、クリームを結成して『Fresh Cream』でデビュー。

○ママス&パパスが『If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears』をリリース。「California Dreamin’」や「Monday,Monday」が大ヒット。

○ドノヴァンの「Sunshine Superman」や「Mellow Yellow」がヒット。
